Tidyroom Privacy Policy
Your photos, videos and contacts never leave your device. Tidyroom analyses and cleans them on your iPhone. Tidyroom needs no account, and none of this data is sent to us. The app shows ads from Google AdMob, and it sends usage statistics only if you agree.
1. Who is responsible
Wladislaw Mitzel (tawadi)

Help with the app itself: Tidyroom support.
2. Photos, videos and contacts
With your permission, Tidyroom reads your photo library to find duplicates, near-identical shots, screenshots, blurry or dark photos, large videos and Live Photos. It compresses videos and converts Live Photos on your device. Deletions always go through the iOS confirmation dialog and land in "Recently Deleted".
With your permission, Tidyroom reads your contacts to find and merge duplicates. Before merging it keeps a local backup (vCard) on your device so you can restore the original cards.
All of this happens only on your device. We never receive, upload or store your photos, videos or contacts. You can revoke both permissions at any time in the iOS Settings app.
Optionally, Tidyroom can scan overnight ("Scan automatically overnight" in Tidyroom's settings, off by default). The scan then runs while the iPhone is charging, again only on your device. If there is something to tidy, the app shows a local notification; iOS asks once for notification permission. The notification is generated on the device and contains only counts and sizes. Nothing is ever deleted automatically.
3. Ads (Google AdMob)
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob, provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland ("Google").
- In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Tidyroom first asks for your consent using Google's User Messaging Platform. Ads only load once that step allows it. You can change your choice at any time under "Ad privacy choices" in Tidyroom's settings.
- Before the first full-screen ad, iOS asks whether Tidyroom may use your device's advertising identifier (App Tracking Transparency). If you say no, you still see ads, but they are not personalised based on that identifier. You can change this under iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
- Depending on your choices, the Google Mobile Ads SDK processes the advertising identifier, your IP address and an approximate location derived from it, device and app information, ad interactions and diagnostic data, to deliver, measure and (if allowed) personalise ads and to prevent fraud.
Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR and § 25 (1) TDDDG) for personalised ads and access to the advertising identifier; for non-personalised ads our legitimate interest in financing the free app (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). Google may transfer data to the USA; Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. More information: Google Privacy Policy and How Google uses data from apps that use its services .
4. Tidyroom Plus (subscription)
You can remove the ads with a Tidyroom Plus subscription. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through StoreKit and the App Store. Apple processes your payment; we do not receive your name, Apple ID or payment details. The app only checks on your device whether a subscription is active. Apple's privacy policy applies to the purchase.
5. Usage statistics (PostHog, opt-in)
Tidyroom asks you once whether you want to share usage statistics. They are sent only if you agree; the setting is off by default and you can turn it off at any time in Tidyroom's settings ("Share anonymous usage stats"). Sending stops immediately.
If you agree, Tidyroom sends events to PostHog (PostHog Inc., hosted in the EU, Frankfurt, via eu.i.posthog.com). The events contain only counts, size buckets, app version and app lifecycle events (for example "scan finished" or "app opened"), never photo or contact data. With each transmission PostHog receives a random installation ID generated on your device (not linked to your Apple ID or advertising identifier), a session ID and, technically, your IP address; the IP address is discarded and not used to determine your location. There are no user profiles, no screen recordings and no session replays. We use the statistics to find errors, improve performance and decide what to improve next.
Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR and § 25 (1) TDDDG). You can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future. Retention: PostHog keeps the events for up to 7 years (the retention period of our PostHog plan), after which they are deleted automatically. The data is pseudonymous: it is tied to the random installation ID, not to your name or Apple ID, so we cannot find your events ourselves; if you send us your installation ID (Tidyroom settings → Privacy), we delete its events on request.
6. What we do not do
Tidyroom needs no user account. Apart from the services named above, no data leaves your device, and we do not sell data.
7. Your rights
You have the right to access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object (Art. 21), and to withdraw any consent at any time (Art. 7 (3)). Because we do not know who you are, we can often only help if you tell us your installation ID; just write to hello@tawadi.de. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, for example Der Hessische Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit, Wiesbaden, Germany.
8. Children
Tidyroom is not directed at children under 16.
9. Changes
We update this policy when the app changes, for example when new services are added. The current version is always available at this address.
